2024 "Mutual Muse" Sauvignon Blanc

Naturally fermented in a mix of old French oak barrels, including "cigar" barrels that enhance structure with more lees contact. The wine goes through malolactic fermentation and spent six months aging sur lie. We play with gentle batonnage in the early stages of the wine's life while it slowly finishes primary and MLF.

Harvested on the later side to achieve a more complex expression of the varietal that sings when paired with food. In the vineyard we focus on sites that can communicate minerality and sense of place. We do three passes of leafing on both sides of the canopy, gradually exposing the clusters to the sun, giving them a “tan” that helps break down Sauvignon Blanc’s tendency towards greenness. Not scientifically proven but we it like this way. 

Before bottling, the selected barrels were racked to tank to cold stabilize and tighten up. As with all our wines, we strongly believe in a bit of tank time to let each component get to know each other before bottling without fining or filtration and only 13 parts of sulfur. 

13.5% abv, around 6.5ish grams of acid

On the nose, early-season stone fruit, passionfruit, and lemon and lime zest. Then the minerality comes in strong: like wet river rock or static in the air before a storm. The two ends of the spectrum are like someone’s blue eyes that can shift color depending on what they’re wearing—this wine feels a little like that. In a good way.

On the palate, bracing acidity hits first, wrapped in a blanket of texture that coats every inch of the mouth. Flavors of tropical fruits like passionfruit and lychee lead into a long finish that leaves a hum of energy behind. It’s crisp, textured, electric—and it sticks with you.

Before moving on to write notes for the next wine, I have to drink some Topo Chico to reset my palette because I can still taste it and I want more.
